The Historical Museum at Thun Castle
The keep
Built around 1200
The Dukes of Zähringen had the tower built under Berchtold V — not as a residence, but as a sign of their power over the region and its trade routes. The keep has housed the museum since 1888.
The Knights’ Hall
A hall of the High Middle Ages
Fourteen metres up, the Knights’ Hall once filled an entire storey — a ceremonial hall that ranks among the best preserved of the High Middle Ages. Today an exhibition space and a venue for concerts and events.
The view
Over town and lake
From the castle hill, the view opens over Thun’s old town, the river Aare and Lake Thun to the mountains.
